- 1989: PhD. in mathematics (differential geometry) at KU Leuven
- Professor at KU Leuven
- Current teaching: Mathematics, statistics and quantitative methods
- Former teaching: Business statistics, informatics, management science
- From 1996 till 2002 and 2004 till 2008 dean of the faculty of applied economics of Katholieke Universiteit Brussel
- From 1997 till 2002 vice-chancelor of Katholieke Universiteit Brussel
- Current research interests:
- Scientific visualization
- Mathematical modelling and optimization in economics
- Hobbies: computers, mathematics, electronic music (Adjacent Blocks Cycle) and digital photography
